Recipe: Tasty Chana Dal Pakoda

There are two versions of china dal pakora one made only of Chana dal and other made of Chana dal and Moong dal mix. You can have Chana Dal Pakoda using 19 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of Chana Dal Pakoda

  1. Prepare of Chana Dal/Bengal Gram.
  2. Prepare of Grated Ginger.
  3. You need of Cumin Seeds.
  4. You need of Fennel Seeds.
  5. You need of Green Chillies (Chopped).
  6. It's of Asafoetida.
  7. You need of Besan/Gram Flour.
  8. You need of Rice Flour.
  9. Prepare of Onions (Sliced).
  10. It's of Carom Seeds (Ajwain).
  11. You need of Kashmiri Chilli Powder.
  12. You need of Turmeric Powder.
  13. Prepare of Cumin Powder.
  14. It's of Soda biocarbonate.
  15. You need of Lemon Juice.
  16. It's of Coriander Leaves (Chopped).
  17. It's of Water.
  18. Prepare of Salt.
  19. You need of Oil (For Deep Frying).

Both the types of pakora taste awesome. These fried fritters are it's definitely worth the try, especially in Monsoon. Daler bora (lentil fritters) Another very popular variant of this chana dal pakora (lentil fritters), that my thakurma would make, is with red lentils. They are also called mosur dal (Bengali) or masoor dal (Hindi).

Chana Dal Pakoda instructions

  1. Wash and soak the chana dal in water for 2 hours or more. Drain the water and rinse the dal 1-2 times. Peel and chop onion, green chillies and coriander leaves..
  2. Grind the chana dal with green chillies, ginger, cumin seeds, fennel seeds and asafoetida into a coarse paste. Add 1-2 tbsp of water only if required. In a large bowl, add chana dal paste, besan and rice flour and mix well..
  3. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder and cumin powder..
  4. Add salt and soda bi-carb..
  5. Add ajwain and coriander leaves..
  6. Add onions and lemon juice and mix well to combine everything. Add water in small quantity to make thick batter for pakoda..
  7. Heat oil for deep frying in a kadai (wok). Once the oil becomes hot, drop spoonful of batter or medium pakora size from hand in hot oil, few at a time, and fry until it becomes golden brown from all sides..
  8. When done, drain on kitchen tissue and repeat the same for rest of the batter..
  9. Serve immediately Crunchy outside and soft inside Chana Dal Pakoda with sauce of your choice and a hot cup of tea or coffee and enjoy as evening snack or breakfast..

The process is same, it is the lentils that makes the difference in the taste.
